Big Creek at Liberty Hollow

Big Creek originates in the upland areas near Chardon and flows through hardwood forests, hemlock-filled ravines, and rocky terrain before emptying into the Grand River close to Painesville. The vegetation growing along its banks helps prevent erosion, keeps the water cool by providing shade, and supports the creek’s ecosystem. Insects and other small aquatic organisms serve as indicators of good water quality and are an important food source for fish and other wildlife.
